Whats in my bag

Ok Ok, I know. I haven't posted here in a while. But stay tuned! Cool things are happening here and hopefully will involve you! More on that later.

But for now I get a lot of emails and random people asking whats in my bag?

Here it is.

I shoot with a Canon 5D. Wonderful camera. I shoot mainly prime lenses. 24mm 1.8 50mm.macro 2.5 85mm 1.8 Also have a 24-105mm IS lens. A couple of 580ex flashes. Gary Fong Dong for the flashes. {I have used this since he came out with these. I tried to go without but its a great piece of gear to own} Quantum Flash with turbo battery. An easy portable soft box that acts like an umbrella. Pocket Wizards! A must. I have tried just about everything else and these just work. Simple. Some lens cleaner. I use the Ed Pierce Target to color calibrate.

I shoot mainly jpeg at weddings. Rarely will I need the RAW capture but once in a while. Portraits/Seniors I shoot RAW.

My workflow involes Lightroom/Photoshop/LabPrints. And the lab I use most is Color Inc {great turn around, great service and great prints}

Thats about it!

Next time I hope to video blog some of my flow for you.

If you have a request....email me!

Help me decide

Ok. I have been on this blog for a small time now. I like the look. I like the style and I like the photo layouts. But Is it better than the "old" blog?

I would like some feedback from you. Drop me an email or leave a comment here.

The old blog link can be found at the top left of this page. It says "old blog".

Have a look over there and gaze at the photos and layout. Then compare to here.

I would like your input please.

Before the season comes of daily blog posting I want to be sure my readers and followers like to be here first and are comfortable.

Thanks!

I will be posting the results on Friday.

Camera items for sale

Hey all. With the studio renovation underway i was going through boxes and just getting rid of things.

I have my older Fuji S2 camera body for sale. Still ready for taking great quality images. A few years back I purchsed this camera for $2400! Now I am looking to sell it for $400. Comes with the body and if I find the manual or anything else you can have that too!

Also I have a bascially brand new Nikon SB-50dx flash. I hardly used it. I will throw it in with the camera.

Also I have an SB-80dx flash for $80.

Also a Tamron 28-105mm 2.8 lens. My main lens a few years back. $250

Basically all of these were my main unit. If I photographed you 3 years ago or longer this is what I used.

If you are looking to pick up a back up or maybe you are looking for a 6mp camera to do all manual and still print great images. Email me and let me know.

Ye ol' vinyl records

I have been a closet audiophile since I was probably 15. I have records back since then. Even the first one I ever bought fIREHOSE- If'n. I have probably about 125 LP's {nothing like my dad's collection, talk about audiophiles! His systems are sweet.} . In the past I have been to record shows and scoured the record stores {the old Vinyl Solutions owned by local music guru Herm-Now owner of Vertigo Music on Division} all the goodwills and garage sales and so on.

When we moved to our new location I put all of that away and focused on the newer smaller ipod players. We have one of those Bose sound wave things and of course if you've been in the studio you've heard the Apple Hi-Fi playing something from my iPod.

Well now I am updating the studio and was moving some boxes around and there it was! The old Pioneer Pl-510A! Begging for some sound. So I set it up. Found some great albums to start with, U2's Joshua Tree and Pearl Jam's VS. were 1st and second. And then I got the itch. No it was a scratch. I know all the good bands are still making vinyl. {I always get the New Pearl Jam Lp's when they are released}. Also U2 makes Lp's and so does Wilco and Radiohead. Tom Petty also. You would really be surprised at who is still making "records".

So i hop on down to the Corner Record Shop in Grandville to see if they have Sky Blue Sky, the latest Wilco album, nope but he can order it. They sold out. In the meantime I find the new Radiohead, In Rainbows. Cool.

I Head over to Vertigo, bam! 5 copies of it. 180 gram pressing! {geek talk} Small talk with Herm and I'm on my way to have a listen.

With the right setup your albums sound so much better than CD's, way better than those ipod things:-)

Long story and if your still reading you must have some records in your basement, go get e'm out and have a listen.

O yeah if you have never even seen a record.......am I getting old?

From-dad
A shot of me from my Dad. You can see my capture in the blog.

U23D

If you haven't heard U2 has made a concert film in 3D. This looks amazing. Have a peek.

Its not coming to Grand Rapids though! Lansing is the closest. So I plan on taking the family to see it. We all are huge fans.

Anyone in Lansing know of something to do for the family after the show?

I emailed the Celebration Cinema in GR to voice my opinion on bringing it here, maybe if there are enough whiners they can bring it here.

But if you are going to Lansing let me know and we might set up a day away:-)

Carmen and Matt

I am starting with only 3 photos because I had to work backwards in the blogging. If I started here, you would end up looking at the reception first! So I wound up with 3 images left.

Big wedding over the weekend! My sister Carmen and new Brother Matt were married up in Northport. 36 people total. Including the 4 Brown Photographers:-) Actually there were 6 photographers present. My dad, Carmens mom Kim, Autum, Clover, Lake and myself. But I think I win the award for most photos taken with Clover a close second.

There are way to many photos. I am looking into a slide show, but thats gonna be a while. I will post and let you know.

We spent the week up there and we had such a great time. The wedding was small and perfect. After we went back to my Dad and Kates house for a little champagne toast and munchies. Then off to Stubbs for a relaxed meal and impromptu dancing:)

Thanks go out to Fosters for all they did with this and also to the Datemas for everything they did. With out you both this would not have been this lovely!

Congrats Carmen and Matt!
